Ballistic United returns home from the San Luis Obispo North-South Tournament as the U-16 Silver Group Champions. This tournament was held in the hills of San Louis Obispo, where warm weather and well groomed soccer fields helped spur on our boys to victory.
After a slow start and a loss against the El Camino Real Salinas Blast, the team gained momentum in its second game beating the Palmdale Thunder from Southern California 4-2. Mitch Lowrey set the tone in the fifth minute, scoring United’s first goal on an assist by James Metz. Later in the 20th minute, defender Zac Savoy took the ball all the way up the right side and crossed it to Zac Arellano, who scored. In the second half, Eddie Schoennagel delivered a high cross from a set piece and Evan Larsen out jumped his defender to win the header for a goal. The final United goal was the result of penalty kick after a handball in the box, beautifully finished by Zac Arellano whose shot found the top right corner of the net. Brandon Krumbach and Parker Quesinberry turned in strong performances to support the team efforts.
In the semi-final game, United beat Santa Rosa Sol 4-1. In the 7th minute, defender Gustavo Rivera took a free kick from 25 yards out, scoring moments later on the rebound. Six minutes later, Mitch Lowrey perfectly headed a pass to Evan Larsen who turned quickly, beat a defender and shot on goal for the score. Near the end of the first half, Ryan Cox took a hard shot from the left side, which deflected off the post only to find Jamie Somerville waiting to put the ball in the net. Evan Larsen rounded out the score with one more goal in the 51st minute of play. His goal was the result of yet another set piece, when Jamie Somerville crossed in a great ball to Evan who finished it with a header. Helping the attack were Mitch Lowrey, James Metz and Sam Fox.
