This past weekend our club held it’s annual Summer Classic soccer tournament. Over 108 teams descended upon Pleasanton and were treated to a great tournament atmosphere and experience! Ballistic United has been providing a great tournament experience for over 40 years. Our fields at the Sports Park & Val Vista Park combined with our quality referee pool and the growing number of participating teams were major factors for the tournament’s success.
Our club’s teams represented themselves quite well. Overall, we had five teams make the semi-final round or higher. Our U9’s, U11’s, U12’s all won their respective age group championships and our U15 & U17 teams made it to the semi-finals. Congratulations to all of our teams for their great success!
Below are some thoughts on our teams:
Coach Randy James: The U-9 Premier team played some nice soccer and is continuing to progress.
Coach John Kinnear: The U11 Premier played a exciting final! After finishing the game in regulation tied, the two teams battled for 2-five minute golden goal overtime periods. Still tied the teams went into penalty kicks with the Ballistic Premier coming out on top 4-2 in penalties.
Coach Luciano Estrada: The U12 Premier team battled back from a 2nd place finish in group play and earning a wild card spot to a Finals win! This is a talented group of young players and watching them continue to improve and to develop is very rewarding.
Coach Greg Rubendall: The U13 team played very well throughout the weekend succumbing in the final 1-0. Coming off last years State Cup championship, the team will not be sneaking up on anyone this year and they are accepting that challenge. They head down the coast to the NHB Cup over Labor Day weekend.
Coach Josh McKay: The U15 Premier team lost a tough game in the semi-final 2-1. The team played well overall and is continuing to develop. It’s next test is down the coast at the NHB Cup over Labor Day weekend.
Coach Andy Cumbo: The U17 Premier team lost 1-0 in the semi-final round. The team was coming off its championship in the San Diego United tournament in early August. The team is preparing for the upcoming Norcal NPL league.
This year’s Summer Classic soccer tournament was a huge success on many fronts. The environment created at the Sports Park was fantastic! Thanks to all of the teams, parents, players, volunteers, and vendors who helped make the event such a fun time for everyone!
