Spring 2018 Important Info

2018-01-22T09:33:48+00:00

Spring 2018 Registration is Open for Birth Years 2005-2010!

Please read bullets CAREFULLY before proceeding!

  • DO NOT CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT IN LEAGUE APPS unless your player did not play recreational or competitive soccer with BUSC in the fall of 2017!! If your player was registered in either recreational or competitive soccer with BUSC in the Fall of 2017, you already have an account in our new registration system! Earlier in the Winter, you would have received a message telling you how to set your password for your already existing account. If you haven’t yet done that, please visit https://busc.org/have-you-changed-your-password-for-entry-into-the-new-registration-system-league-apps-yet/ and follow those directions BEFORE REGISTERING ANY PLAYERS. If you have trouble, email ballistic@busc.org and Kimberli will assist. Every time you create a duplicate account, a reindeer loses its ability to fly.
  • All registrants will be asked if they are a NEW PLAYER or RETURNING TEAM. If you are registering a player who played for BUSC as a COMPETITIVE (not recreational) player in the Fall of 2017, you are a RETURNING TEAM—and you will then select your team from the fall. All others should register as NEW PLAYERs.
  • There are options for payment plans or paying in full. As in the past, you will be able to pay online or via check, but in the new system, ALL program registrations will show the 3% processing fee. When checks are received, the 3% for that amount will be removed in League Apps. This is just a nuance of the setup of the new system, but the same options remain as before.
  • Please choose the correct birth year for your child—there is a program registration for each year 2005-2010.
  • Registration for the Spring Competitive season will end on Feb. 5 so that we can register all teams for Spring league by the deadline.

WHY IS THERE A SPRING-ONLY SEASON for 2018?

As many of you are aware, there have been a few changes to United States youth development over the past few years, mandated by US Soccer. BUSC has successfully migrated to forming teams by birth year and changing the playing format of the younger age groups to 5v5, 7v7 and 9v9. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and support during this process!

We now have one last hurdle to collectively navigate through, which is the recent decision by Norcal Premier league to align the younger age group calendars (U8-13) to the older age groups (U14-18), which will then align our soccer calendar to the vast majority of the rest of the country. Below is an outline by age group of how that will affect your sons playing calendar during 2018/19, as well as during spring 2018.

In addition, Norcal Premier league has “mandated” a defined tryout window during which ALL clubs must hold tryouts or risk being removed from the league. The new tryout period for younger age groups (U8-13) is 5/12-6/12 and for the older age groups is 5/21-6/12. The club is working on a plan of how we will navigate the tryout period while taking into account Memorial Day weekend and the end of school on June 1st. Our plan is to have our club tryouts finished by 5/24, which will allow for the traditional team formation and kick-off meetings the following week before school break begins! These details will be forthcoming around mid-March.

Our younger age groups have historically tried out in Feb and began playing with their new teams in the Spring league. Since new teams will not form until after the May tryout period, we will be asking all parents to register their son for Spring league, for which  players will return to their current team and coach for the 2018 spring season only.

The Norcal playing league issued a clear statement and policy that NO players may move clubs during the spring season. Players looking to move clubs may only do so during the approved tryout period in May. The only allowable additions to team rosters can be from new families moving into town or players from the Club’s recreational or Select programs (which traditionally do not play in the spring). For this Spring season only, these new additional players will be guaranteed a spot on a Spring team, as no tryouts can be held during this time. This guarantee does NOT extend to placement on a Fall team after the May tryouts.

We anticipate the spring-only registration window opening the week of Jan 15th and closing on Feb 5th.  There will be a program fee associated with the 2010-2005 spring league in order to cover basic costs coaches, field set up, referees, etc. There will be NO additional basic club registration, as our players’ current US Club player passes remain active until July 1. Only new players coming from the recreational program or moving into the area will be charged a new player pass fee of $25.

In short, the transition to a new playing calendar created a need for us to find the simplest way to place our younger players on teams for the Spring 2018 season, as their 2017-18 season will have ended and the 2018-19 season will not yet have begun. We felt the least complicated process was to maintain the 2017-18 season teams through the Spring. There may be a very limited number of moves if coaches believe a player’s development is best served by placement on another team, but this will be the exception, not the norm.

Of course, current players are not required to sign up for the Spring season, but we do recommend it as a way to keep the ball at your player’s feet and ensure they are well-prepared for tryouts in May.

2000-2004 age groups (Premier/Elite):

Your effect is minimal as you are currently on club break for high school and upon return in late February, you will return to train for spring league and your State cup competition, which runs thru April/early May. Your son will try out for next year’s team during the 5/21-5/24 time-period.

2005-2007 age groups (Premier/Elite)****:

  • If your team played in the lower level of state cup, which finishes in December, your team will be offered additional training 2x per week during Jan-Mid February. For the spring season, you will register your son for the spring league (March-April) between Jan. 15 and Feb. 15. He will return to his current team and be coached by his current coach (in most cases). He will then try out for his 2018-19 team during the 5/12-5/20 time-period and will begin with that team in the Summer of 2018.

2008-2009 age groups (Premier/Elite)****: We annually offer our Club’s Winter Soccer Academy, which has options to train 1-2x per week in Jan and Feb (details can be found on the website).  We encourage you to register your son the program, which normally has between 150-175 players keeping up their soccer skills and having fun! Select teams: Any player who played this current year in the Select program and is interested in joining Premier or Elite level programs for the upcoming 2018/19 season may register for the Spring 2018 season. We certainly encourage your son’s participation in the Spring league, as this will best prepare him for the May tryouts.  It is important to keep in mind there are NO guarantees about making a team for the Fall season.  In addition, we encourage you to consider registering your son for our Winter Soccer Academy, which has options to train 1-2x per week in Jan and Feb (details can be found on the website). This program begins training in March and finishes in May. They will train 2x per week and play in some weekend playdates that clubs organize with one another. Further details will be forthcoming.

We have some exciting news to share with you! Our team has decided to make the switch to LeagueApps. LeagueApps is a sports management platform that is becoming an integral part of our business operations and we wanted to send you some details outlining why we made the switch!

PLEASE DO NOT CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT AND PLEASE ONLY CONFIRM ONE ACCOUNT PER FAMILY. Please DO add other important info and the other family members who may register players or need to receive communications from BUSC about currently registered programs.

If you have already created a new account for futsal, no worries. Plan to use the new account you created moving forward. I will handle the duplicate account. 🙂

If you still have remaining amounts owed, those will show in the system by the end of this week. ALL players will show as enrolled in their current programs by Dec. 1.
