Hello BUSC Recreational Families,
We hope everyone is well and safe. As we look forward in hopes of resuming soccer at some point this summer, we wanted to reach out to our recreational families with information for those who are interested in their child being evaluated for competitive soccer for 2020-21.
In a normal year, our tryouts would have been held in May and we would be committing our teams for 2020-21 right now. Instead, we are making multiple plans depending on the timing of our ability to return to the fields and ensuring we keep all of our members informed in the process. At this time, there is not a schedule for tryouts/evaluations, but at some point, we do believe we will get there. If you would like your child to be involved in this process or would like to know more about competitive soccer, the rest of this email is for you.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN REC AND COMPETITIVE SOCCER
Competitive coaches are professional coaches who have significant experience coaching soccer. Teams have dedicated field space and equipment for practices as well. Our competitive teams play in NorCal leagues against teams from other towns in the region and also participate in tournaments outside of Pleasanton. There is some travel involved in our competitive programs. Our U8 program is slightly different in that their competition for the fall is largely made up of play dates where teams from different areas come together to play in a less formal format.
The commitment (both financial and time) is significantly higher. Recreational teams are generally rostered at slightly higher number of players per team, as there tends to be higher numbers of absences within the recreational teams. If players are offered a spot and commit to a competitive team, the team relies on everyone to show up a vast majority of the time in order to properly field a team. Our Premier/Elite teams run from July to May of the following year and involve training 3x a week in the fall and 2x a week in the Spring. Our Select teams run from July to November, occasionally early December and involve training 2x per week. Please note there is no Select program for our U8 program.
The financial commitment is also significantly higher with Select programs starting at $1600 or more (depending on uniform and team-based costs). For a glance at pricing for our programs and other information, please see https://busc.org/program-description/
