Two former BUSC DA players on field for SJ Earthquakes on Wednesday night!

Jacob Akanyirige got his first MLS start and Cade Cowell came on as a substitute Wednesday night for the San Jose Earthquakes as they battled to a 1-1 final with the Portland Timbers.

Akanyirige, 18-yearsold, started at a defender spot and played the first 69 minutes. Earthquakes goalie JT Marcinkowski had nothing but praise for the former Ballistic DA player.

“A huge shoutout to Jacob,” said Marcinkowski. “I think it was his debut start. He played really well for 70 minutes. He looked like he belonged. He looked like what we see in training every single day. I was trying to give him confidence and do the best I can back there.”

Cowell, the 16-year-old who earlier this year became the youngest Earthquakes player to ever score a goal, played the final21 minutes in the tie.
