The Roots are a professional soccer team based in Oakland that is a member of the USL Championship League, a league that is directly under the MLS in hierarchy.
“It’s more about the professional pathway through the Roots,” said Jerry Losson, the BUSC Director of Coaching for the MLS Next program. “(The Roots) are trying to identify players who could play with their 510 Project team in addition to the players MLS Next team.”
The Ballistic players are Saul Tecle, Ethan Cotton, Ethan Kerrigan, Ilya Alekseev, Nathan Morgan, and Thomas Camier.
“This is to identify the top youth players in the area – to reward their talent work ethic and ambition to get better,” said Ballistic Executive Technical Director Kevin Crow. “Offer these players top player development opportunities, train with and against similar players. This helps develop the player pathway to college or pro.”
